Philippians 2:4
   Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. (KJV)

Thought:

   No, this is not a contradiction of the commandment to not covet another’s possessions. The ‘things’ referenced here means ‘welfare’. Be not only concerned with your own welfare but with the welfare of others as well. One of the best ways a person can forget about their own problems is to help other people solve theirs. In so doing, our own problems seem to be not as great in comparison and we receive the joy that comes from helping. Even facing crucifixion, Jesus cared more for us than himself.

Prayer:

Our Heavenly Father,
   Thank You for this day and all of Your blessings in our lives. Abba Lord, have Your Holy Spirit open our hearts to other people’s plights. Let us not be so consumed with our own problems that we overlook the needs of others. Give us the compassion to help others in their time of need and the strength to cope with our problems. May we show the concern for others that Jesus showed for us.

Proverbs 20:6
   Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find? (KJV)

Thought:

   Have you ever known anyone that you thought was a friend, only to have them turn their back on you in your time of need? Maybe they found another ‘friend’ who could offer them more profit. Friendship is a privilege that one has to earned by being there in good times as well as the bad. Loyalty is a precious commodity that is far too lacking in many people. The true test of a person’s character is how faithful they are in times of need. Are you the type person that can be depended on?

Prayer:

Our Heavenly Father,
   Thank You for this day and all of Your blessings in our lives. Abba Lord, may Your Holy Spirit show us the way to being trustworthy and dependable. As we walk through this life with others, let us always be there for them in times of trouble. Have us be of good, loyal character, someone that they know they can depend on. Have us reflect the faithful character of Your Son, our Lord Jesus.

Galatians 6:9
   And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. (KJV)

Thought:

   Failure to succeed at what some people attempt can be attributed more to a lack of determination than to a lack of talent. At the first sign of trouble, or a problem they can’t immediately rectify, they grow disheartened and give up. These are the ones that give in to temptation, because that is usually the easy way out. The same applies when it comes to obeying God’s laws and commandments or to not follow God’s Word. Our Father wishes for us to stay strong in our faith and continue to do well.

Our Heavenly Father,
   Thank You for this day and all of Your blessings in our lives. Abba Lord, have Your Holy Spirit give us the strength and courage to not grow weary in our pursuit of living as You would have Your children to live. Receive our supplications for assistance as we try to handle the problems that come our way as we strive to walk in the way of our Lord, Jesus by following Your laws and Your will.

   For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. (KJV)

Thought:

   Who do you try to please the most? Is it your peers that you live with each day, or the God that gave you life? Is it your employer that pays your salary, or the One that paid the ultimate price so that you might live? Who you try to impress speaks volumes of your character and what values have priority in your life. Following the teachings of Jesus about honesty, fairness, and loyalty will endear you to those you know or work for. If it doesn’t, then maybe you are in the wrong kind of company.

Our Heavenly Father,
   Thank You for this day and all of Your blessings in our lives. Abba Lord, have Your Holy Spirit help us discern the character and intentions of others and show us how to be more honest and forthright with those we associate with. Do not let deceit or evasiveness enter into our life. May we ever follow the teachings of Jesus so that we might present ourselves worthy of friendship and trust.

Hebrews 12:2
   Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. (KJV)

Thought:

   People that sorrow, look back. People that worry, look around. People that have faith, look up. That is where salvation comes from. That is where our Lord and Savior is. He is sitting up there on His throne, beside our Father, and waiting for God to give the word so that He may return, gather His brethren around Him, and do away with the evil influences that we have been plagued with by Satan. Them that believe God’s Word look to the heavens with anticipation. Which way do you look?

Our Heavenly Father,
   Thank You for this day and all of Your blessings in our lives. Abba Lord, have Your Holy Spirit fill us with joy, revelation, and anticipation. Our Father, we thank You for another opportunity to offer our praise and supplications to You and Your Son. James 3:17
   But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. (KJV)

Thought:

   Wisdom isn’t necessarily what you know, but what you sow. Unfortunately, the lack of righteousness in this world is due to the lack of sowers. God expects us to take the knowledge he has given us and share it with others. Only through knowledge can a person expect to gain wisdom, one of the most cherished possessions. The knowledge He chooses to impart to us is not complicated, but pure and simple. He wants us to share it with everyone and to live our lives according to His Word.

Prayer:

Our Heavenly Father,
   Thank You for this day and all of Your blessings in our lives. Abba Lord, have Your Holy Spirit help us gain the knowledge that we need to grow wise. Thank You for demonstrating purity, peace making, gentleness, compassion, mercy, impartiality, and sincerity in Jesus. We ask for the strength and wisdom to demonstrate those qualities each day as we strive to live our lives more like He did.

Thought:

   It is a good thing to be a Christian and know it. It is an even better thing to be a Christian and show it. Too many people are only talkers and too few are actually doers. If you are going to claim to be a righteous person, you need to back it up with positive and productive actions. Attend your place of worship regularly. Help those in need. Live your life as an example of the teachings of Jesus. Show  this world know that you are a child of God by living your life as a reflection of Him, and His will.

Prayer:

Our Heavenly Father,
   Thank You for this day and all of Your blessings in our lives. Abba Lord, have Your Holy Spirit show us how we can proclaim Your greatness through our speech and actions. Let us not act in any way that would make people question our faith in You, Your Son, and Your heavenly kingdom to come. May we always strive to have our conduct reflect Your will, determination, mercy, and grace.

   A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just. (KJV)

Thought:

   The measure of a person’s character is not what they get from their ancestors, but what they leave their descendants. This doesn’t have to apply to material wealth. The best legacy a person can leave to their children and their children’s children is a good name and reputation. It is tremendously easier to live up to a good name than it is to overcome a questionable reputation. Be the kind of person that those which follow would wish to be like. Give them a head start by attempting to be like our Father.

Our Heavenly Father,
   Thank You for this day and all of Your blessings in our lives. Abba Lord, have Your Holy Spirit show us the right path to follow with our lives. Let us live our lives as we would like to see our children and grandchildren live theirs. Let us always keep in mind that we are being watched and that our actions will shape the characters of those that will come after us. Let us live like Your Holy Son.
